HOW TO USE SAFFRON
Saffron is the most versatile spice seasoning for delicacies giving any dish a Pristine aromatic Taste along with floral aroma and a golden orange color.
SAFFRON CAN BE USED WITH WATER, MILK, CREAM, STOCK, WHITE WINE AND BROTH.
Measure the saffron threads.
- Refer to the recipe to check how much saffron to use.
- Saffron is measured in increments of grams and by the number of threads, or “pinches.”
- A “PINCH OF SAFFRON” means 5 -10 medium-sized threads of saffron.
- Adding too much saffron can ruin a dish, so it's best to err on the side of too little. Always add more if the taste and color is not to the satisfaction.
- Counting the saffron threads usually offers the most accurate measurement.
- In case of adding own; The rule of thumb is usually to add three strands for each person that you're serving.
- Three strands is approximately a ½ teaspoon.
Powdered Saffron
- When using powdered saffron instead of whole threads, 1/4 tsp (1.25 ml) of powder equals about 1/2 tsp (2.5 ml) of threads. The quantity is enough for recipes to serve 8 to 12 people.
Grain-based Saffron Recipes
- For traditional Saffron recipes; add about 15-20 threads of saffron to four servings made with 12 oz (300 g) of rice. Add 30-40 threads of saffron to a Biriyani recipe that serves four.
Saffron to Desserts
Saffron has a flavor profile similar to Vanilla. Custard, Plain Pastry and sweet breads that feature Vanilla as the primary flavor.
- For Custards, only add a pinch of saffron to the recipe per four servings.
- For Pastry and Plain cookies, use 10 to 15 threads of saffron for every 8 oz (200 g) of flour called for in the recipe.
- For sweet breads, adding 15 threads of saffron per 1 lb. (450 g) of flour will create a subtle flavor, For a stronger taste add up to 60 threads.

ADDING A DASH OF SALT OR A HINT OF SUGAR WHILE GRINDING THE SAFFRON HELPS TO EASE SAFFRON INTO FINE POWDER
GRINDING GANGWAL NATURALS™ SAFFRON WITH SALT OR SUGAR
Take a pinch of GANGWAL NATURALS™ Saffron (15-30 threads) and grind it into a fine powder using a pestle and mortar or electric grinder. *For ease of grinding, you can add SALT or small amount of SUGAR to your pestle and mortar which acts an abrasive, to reduce the saffron into a fine powder. Once the GANGWAL NATURALS™ Saffron is grounded, add the powder to a small amount of hot water (2 ounces/4-5 tbsp) and let it steep for a min of 10 minutes. We recommend steeping for a minimum of 10 - 15 minutes. GANGWAL NATURALS™ Saffron will release its Color, Flavor, and Aroma when it's grounded into a fine powder and steeped in hot or warm water. The concentrated liquid can be added to the dishes, use it as a marinade for white meats or vegetables. If your recipe or dish already has broth, skip the water infusion process and add the powder directly to your broth.
GANGWAL NATURALS™ SAFFRON MILK
Grind GANGWAL NATURALS™ saffron into a powder first and add directly to your hot milk. If you prefer to make it traditionally using whole threads, simply add milk (for non-dairy use almond or coconut milk) to a saucepan and bring to a light boil. Add GANGWAL NATURALS™ saffron threads to the milk and turn the heat down to low. Stir the mixture thoroughly and frequently to ensure the milk doesn’t scorch. Simmer for 10- 15 minutes until you achieve the desired color. GANGWAL NATURALS™ Saffron is less soluble in milk than water, due to its density. It will take some time to render your milk a nice yellow color. For extra flavor, try adding cardamom seeds, cinnamon, sugar or honey!
